It’s no secret that many young women are self-conscious about their stomachs. Whether it’s a case of rectangular-shaped abs or a more rounded tummy, the quest for a toned midsection can be frustrating. However, there are some simple exercises that can help to tone the abdominal muscles and give the stomach a more defined look. One of the most effective is the Pilates “hundred.” This move targets all of the major abdominal muscles, including the rectus abdominis (the “six-pack” muscle) and the obliques (the muscles along the sides of the waist). To do the hundred, lie on your back with your legs in the air and your arms by your sides. Start by pulsing your arms up and down while you exhale and inhale for 100 counts. Then lift your head and shoulders off the ground and continue pulsing for another 100 counts. You should feel your abs working hard by the end of this exercise! Other great moves for toning the stomach include crunches, sit-ups, and Russian twists. So don’t despair if you’re not happy with your midsection – with a little effort, you can achieve the stomach you’ve always wanted.
